Pulse — Private Messenger
Self-hosted private messenger with Django Channels, WebSockets, PostgreSQL, Redis, Docker, and an Android companion at pulsetalk.ir.
The challenge
Build a private, self-hosted messenger with authenticated 1:1 and group chat, persistence, realtime signals, media, and a mobile companion—without depending on third-party chat SaaS.
The approach
Built Pulse with Django, Channels, ASGI, WebSockets, PostgreSQL, Redis and Docker. Supports authenticated one-to-one and admin-managed groups, history, read receipts, typing indicators, replies, voice messages, private attachments, profiles and an ops dashboard. Android companion reuses the web experience with native file handling and periodic notification checks.
The outcome
Service online at https://pulsetalk.ir/. Source: https://github.com/cnafateh/PrivateReal-timeChatPlatform. Android alerts are periodic rather than instant push.
